ON–320: Onchain Culture 🌐

πŸ“ Editor’s Note:

In this issue covering Onchain Culture, OurNetwork's contributors are looking into some of the wilder corners of the consumer crypto space.

Case in point β€” Grok, the AI chatbot, spawned a new token by talking to Bankr, another AI-powered tool, on X. That token has reached a $34M market cap at the time of writing, giving crypto's constituents a glimpse of a future where AIs communicate with each other on the way to creating new digital assets.

In fact, Grok has generated $380,000 in fees creating tokens which have also driven over $63M in volume, according to a new Dune dashboard.

Of course, that's not all this issue contains. OurNetwork's contributors have covered some of the biggest names in the consumer crypto space, from decentralized social media players like Farcaster and Lens, to Kaito post its $300M+ token generation event, to users registering Basenames for over 200 years.

It's a lot to cover, so let's get to it.

πŸ“ˆ Clanker's Ecosystem Grows with more Interfaces, Agents, and Apps Launching Evolving from First Generation Token Launchpads

  • Clanker is a token deployment protocol that deploys ERC-20s via its agent or partner interfaces. In 3.5 months, Clanker has launched ~73k tokens (total volume crossing $2.1B), generated $21.1M in fees, & attracted 215k traders. Clanker is doubling down on its ecosystem & updating its fee split β€” 40% creators, 40% interfaces, 20% Clanker β€” to boost ecosystem growth while maintaining creator rewards. Growing interfaces include clankfun, bolide, productclank, nativedots, a0xbot, streamm, and glanker.

  • Clanker is distinct from launchpads like pump.fun, Flaunch, Virtuals, & Zora. Pump is memecoin-focused while Clanker is doubling down on tokenizing projects. Zora’s strategy is purpose built for tokenizing content around images, videos, and gifs. They are collectively growing the Base ecosystem.
Dune - @clanker_protection_team
  • The second most popular Clanker token by market cap is Bankr, an AI companion that buys, sells, swaps, places limit orders, and executes transactions via commands directed to @bankrbot on X or Farcaster. Bankr lets users launch Clanker tokens on X and send tokens to profiles without leaving the social feed.

Transaction Spotlight:

xAI launched its Grok agent, allowing users to ask questions by tagging it. A user, @coin_domin, asked Grok to suggest a token name and leveraged Bankr to deploy the token through Clanker. However, Bankr requires users to hold 5M BNKR tokens. When Grok wanted to deploy the token but lacked sufficient BNKR, the community funded its wallet, deploying the DRB token, which has attracted $34M market cap at the time of writing. In a plot twist, a user, @DavidJones80, convinced Grok to transfer the Clanker creator fees Grok earned to their personal wallet.

πŸ“ˆ Farcaster Monthly Active Users and User Growth Numbers have Increased Sharply over the Last Few Months

  • Farcaster is a decentralized social media protocol built on top of Ethereum. Farcaster monthly active users (MAUs) have been on the rise since the start of 2025. MAUs reached a 6-month high of 229k on Mar. 7, after dipping to about 182k in February. Farcaster MAUs peaked at about 287k in July 2024.
Dune - @empty_block
  • New user signups are also on the rise since the start of 2025. There’s been an average of 5k-7.5k new users per day since the start of the year, hitting a peak of 14,825 on Feb. 23.
Dune - @empty_block
  • In addition to new users, some older users are coming back. Reactivated users, users who returned after being inactive for at least 30 days, have bounced back over the last month, topping 7.6k on Mar. 1.

πŸ“ˆ Decentralized Social Media Remains Niche as Apps are not Specialized for a Specific Content Type, Most Users do not Make More than a Couple of Cents Per Day

  • Lens is a decentralized social media protocol that gives its users more control over their data and content. As of today 647,000 users have joined with a surge on Feb. 28 and 29 2024 β€” when Lens became permissionless β€” and Dec. 23 2024 β€” shortly after Lens announced $31M in funding. The announcement of Grove, onchain-controlled storage, as part of their move towards an appchain did not lead to a new surge of users. However, there is now a slightly higher level of activity.
Dune - @katerinabc
  • Text is still king. This is surprising given the popularity of short videos on centralized social media platforms. None of the most popular apps on Lens β€” hey, lenster, phaver, orb β€” specialize in a content type. This might change with lenstube, the most popular app for videos.
Dune - @katerinabc
  • The premise that people can make a living off decentralized social is not yet proven. Collector earnings are low, most making a couple of cents per day since the golden days of spring 2024.

πŸ“ˆ Despite a 35% Market Cap Surge After Its Token Generation Event, 69% of KAITO Airdrop Remains Unclaimed

  • Kaito leverages AI to deliver real-time analytics on market sentiment and developments by aggregating scattered crypto data. It filters out irrelevant information and provides concise insights from various sources. Additionally, Kaito promotes a decentralized InfoFi model to optimize information flow and drive value creation. On Feb. 20, 2025, Kaito airdropped its native token, KAITO, allocating 10% of its supply. However, after two weeks, 69% of the eligible tokens remained unclaimed.
Dune - @seoul
Dune - @seoul
  • Despite significant selling pressure following the token generation event, KAITO has managed to maintain its market cap. As of Mar. 7, 2025, its fully diluted value (FDV) stands at $1.6B, roughly 35% higher than at its initial launch although the broader crypto market has experienced a significant downturn.
Dune - @seoul
  • With increased voting rights and rewards through liquidity incentives, over 11M KAITO have been staked. Although the utility beyond monetary compensation remains unclear, the market seems interested in Kaito’s long-term plans. As the InfoFi sector heats up, Kaito’s progress is worth watching.

πŸ“ˆ With 140 Apps Serving 5.3M Weekly Active Users, World Mini Apps are an Asymmetric Distribution Engine for any Consumer-Facing Crypto Product

  • There's been 41M downloads of the World app, 10.4M wallets created, with an all-time-high of 1.3M wallets in December. To verify a wallet, users need to verify their eye iris on a physical Orb, and receive an airdrop of WLD tokens. The airdrop is designed to reward more tokens to the earlier users. That airdrop is of 41 WLD, which is worth $39, at the time of writing. Even though it's 'farmed,' the scanning aspect is a great go-to-market lever to drive users on the app, even if they later off ramp it. 246M WLD has been claimed so far.
Dune - @socialgraphvc
  • The amount of transactions on Worldchain has been growing significantly, reaching a high of 24M in January. According to the World app stats, there's 1.9M daily active users of the app, 5.3M weekly ones and 8.4M monthly ones, with $112M in total value locked across wallets. It's important to keep in mind that miniapps just launched in late Oct 2024.
Dune - @socialgraphvc
  • Contract development had a lot of movement pre-launch of miniapps, but now it's decreasing, reflecting a lack of high quality development. Miniapps launched around three months ago, and there's virtually no competition on the ecosystem for them.
Dune - @socialgraphvc
  • The mini-app ecosystem is extremely nascent β€” at World Build Demo Day, 12 teams presented their ideas for prizes. Some teams built in the DeFi space, some in consumer, some AI, some gaming. The common thread among all β€” getting users has never been easier. Some had launched and gotten thousands of users overnight.

Layer3 ⚫

πŸ‘₯ Maus | Website | Dashboard

πŸ“ˆ Layer3 reached +7.2M Users and +150M Quest Completions Across Over 34 Chains

  • Since inception more than 7.2M unique wallets have interacted with Layer3, the customer acquisition and user engagement platform. Those wallets have emitted over +120M transactions, completed +150M quests and +8M Incentives Deployed. Both wallet and quest completions have significant peaks in Q1 2024 with +1.3M active wallets in multiple months, finishing over 30M quests. These peaks were mainly caused by some very successful quests and were the infliction point of the protocol. Currently there are 300-400k active wallets each month with +3M quest completions.
Dune - @mausefalle
  • Layer3 ran quests on 54 chains and has +900 partner ecosystems, that are running quests. In the last two years, Layer 3 was able to consistently onboard 35-50 new ecosystems equating to a 5% growth rate per month.
Dune - @mausefalle
  • The L3 token holder base grew to +270k wallets across six blockchains since the July 2024 airdrop. The majority of holders are on the Layer 2s Base and Optimism. Since November 2024 Layer3 also managed to buyback +7.7M L3 tokens which is roughly 1.5% of the circulating supply. Annualized, this equates to +6% of the circulating supply.

Basenames πŸ”΅

πŸ‘₯ Feyikemi | Website | Dashboard

πŸ“ˆ Some Basenames are Claimed for Long Periods, Showing Strong User Confidence in their Long-Term Value

  • Basenames serve as blockchain-based domain-like identifiers, simplifying wallet addresses within ecosystems like ENS on Base. These names enhance accessibility and branding, requiring renewal upon expiration. Since the launch of Basenames in August 2024, Basenames have seen significant uptake. 745,345 unique Basenames have been registered with users collectively paying 298 ETH to acquire them. This strong adoption highlights the growing demand for decentralized identity solutions on Base.
Dune - @feyikemi
  • The Basename market shows strong demand, with most names purchased for less than 0.001 ETH, signaling affordability and broad adoption. However, the highest sale at 0.976 ETH, ~$2,575 at the time, in August 2024 highlights the value placed on exclusive names, reflecting strong interest in high-value identifiers.
Dune - @feyikemi
Dune - @feyikemi
  • Nearly 90% of Basenames were claimed for one year, but some users chose longer time frames. Notably, "joaquiniglesias" was secured for 201 years, suggesting strong belief in Basenames’ enduring value or speculative long-term positioning within the ecosystem.
