• DePIN, decentralized physical infrastructure networks, is one of the fastest growing sectors in crypto, aiming to displace CAPEX-heavy industries like cloud computing, telecommunications, and renewable energy. Of 370+ live DePIN tokens, 75% focus on virtual services (AI/compute) and the other 25% provide physical services (wireless/energy/sensors); 75% of DePIN tokens launched on an EVM chain, with most of the rest launching on Solana, Cosmos, or their own native L1.

• At the annual DePIN Summit in August in NYC, EV3, a venture firm, surveyed 117 DePIN founders and investors about their next-twelve-months expectations — most expect the DePIN sector to grow onchain revenues from $20M to $50M-$100M ARR or more, while increasing market cap dominance from 8-10% to 10-15% of all altcoins.

• DePINScan tracks >3M active DePIN nodes globally. Networks with significant scale are gravitating towards high-throughput blockchains: of the ten DePINs with >100k active nodes, seven are building in the Solana ecosystem (Helium, Natix, Hivemapper, Grass, Dawn, Uprock, and Roam).

• Helium Mobile is a blockchain-based wireless service that lets users create and manage their own mobile networks while earning tokens. It operates on the Helium Network, which relies on community-owned hotspots to provide coverage and generate tokens with the aim of offering an affordable alternative to traditional mobile service providers. The decentralized mobile service notched 114,000 subscribers in September — the highest figure since Helium Mobile launched in December 2023.

• These graphs show Helium’s growth, with daily offload subscribers jumping from 1,179 in June to 73,954 in September, an average weekly increase of 18,780. Offload data rose from 0.06 TB to 32.29 TB, showing that subscribers are increasingly relying on Helium for heavy data use during congestions.

• Data Credits (DCs) are required to use network services like data transmission. Organizations burn DCs which are acquired by burning HNT, the native token of the helium network, as they provide connectivity to users. Helium Mobile is the #1 burner using $2,939 in the last 24 hours with enough balance to last 56.39 days at the current burn rate.

• Glow is a DePIN network aims to promote solar energy by incentivizing individuals to contribute to solar farms. The project has an annual recurring revenue of $1.6M, which places it behind long-established DePIN stalwart Filecoin.

• Glow has now onboarded over 50 solar farms while still in guarded-launch.

• Glow now averages over 15,000 kWh of power output per month.

• Livepeer is a video infrastructure network for live and on-demand streaming. It has integrated AI Video Compute capabilities, called Livepeer AI, by harnessing its massive GPU network and plans to become a key infrastructure player in video-focused AI computing. As such, the fees paid to Livepeer AI node operators have increased significantly over the last few months. From July 1 to Sept. 16, ETH fees have grown by 1005% (10x) reflecting the increased use of the network’s AI compute capabilities.

• Despite several investments in growth and infrastructure initiatives (grants, hackathons, hirings) the treasury LPT balance has been growing steadily and hit an all-time high of 382,232 LPT tokens, enabling the community to expand future public goods funding towards the Livepeer Network’s expansion.

• The participation rate on the network has been steadily increasing (from 41.1% in March to 47.8% in September) thanks to a corresponding growth of incentives, such as inflation, that aim to encourage participation. Once the participation rate surpasses 50%, the inflation starts to decrease.

• IoTeX offers a comprehensive suite of tools to create fully decentralized, composable, and interoperable DePIN projects. The project provides a flexible array of in-house DePIN Infrastructure Modules (DIMs) and public goods, alongside modules contributed by third-party providers, such as Filecoin, Risc0, NearDA, and Espresso, among others. IoTeX has over 330k global users across 120 countries.

• DePINscan, built by IoTeX, is a map explorer and dashboard for the DePIN community, where all device data is processed by IoTeX's off-chain compute middleware. The number of connected devices has more than doubled from 1,160,495 on June 8th to 3,100,212 today.

• IoTeX now has the 8th fastest blockchain in the world with a max recorded TPS of 830 transactions per second.

• TADA is a ride-hailing application operating primarily in Southeast Asia. The graph below shows how token incentives given by MVL, TADA's parent company, to early TADA drivers illustrates how token incentives can be used to solve the cold start problem and build network effects. Over approximately 18 months, despite not having many trips from the rider side, the project successfully built and maintained a stable driver network.

• Connected to TADA’s network, TADA mini is an app which allows for seamless ride bookings directly through Telegram, without the need for additional app or complex KYC processes. The token referral program applied to TADA Mini once again demonstrated that token economics can be highly effective in network bootstrapping.
